What are Dentures?

Dentures are an effective and safe method for replacing teeth. Unlike other forms of teeth replacement, dentures can be removed and cleaned whenever necessary. By replacing natural teeth with artificial teeth, dentures provide the ability to chew, talk, and use all functions of the mouth successfully. Both full and partial dentures look natural and are formed to properly fit an individual’s mouth.

Full Dentures

A complete set of dentures replace all of a patient’s natural teeth. The dentures are professionally fitted to the top or bottom gum line and are easily removable. In the case of extractions, full dentures can be placed approximately three months after the extraction site is healed.

Partial Dentures

Not all patients need full dentures. For those who do not, partial dentures are used when the surrounding natural teeth cannot support a structure such as a dental bridge. Partial dentures are fastened to a patient’s natural teeth. Partial dentures are not permanently fastened and like full dentures, they can be removed at any time. Unlike full dentures, partial dentures are not usually held in place by suction or oral adhesive.

Getting Dentures

Before receiving dentures, a complete and thorough oral exam is necessary. Dentures can provide comfort and ease for patients suffering from various dental health issues.

Oral health is a crucial part of overall health for individuals of all ages. Whether full or partial dentures are needed, dentures can greatly improve one’s quality of life by preventing pain, enhancing physical appearance, supporting facial muscles, and easing discomfort while eating.
