“Great Ingredients, Great Beer!” – that is the slogan for the Berthoud Brewing Company of Berthoud, Colorado. Located between Longmont and Loveland, not far west of the I-25, this small setting offers live music and a variety of fantastic beers featuring local Colorado grains from Troubadour Maltings of Fort Collings. Any taproom featuring fine, local ingredients should be visited – this one is no exception! A Loveland location is now available as well for those who cannot get enough.
The kinds of beer featured at this microbrewery include six mainstay crafts: Carter COlsch, 1888 Blonde Ale, RailBender Scottish, Monk Punch, Little Thompson, and 5030′ IPA. The alcohol content in these staples is a nice range from 5.4% to 8.8% and the selection of anything from a Kolsch to a Trappist Dubbel means everyone will find something to enjoy.
Outside of the staple beers, there are also a number of rotating specials. These may include a Fireside Series featuring Scottish Ale styles, some Barrel-Aged, or a Nitro Porter brewed with a creamy peanut butter flavor. Some experimental styles play with cinnamon, vanilla, and a variety of other spices to excite your taste buds.
Friday and Saturday nights are the perfect time to come to the brewery if you love live music. If you’re a musician, the website for Berthoud Brewing offers a way to contact the facilities and hook you up with a gig. The live music is a popular option among those who frequent the taprooms, but the atmosphere is pleasant with or without the tunes playing! You can even text “BBC” to 57711 to receive text updates on special events.
The original location at 450 8th St. Berthoud, Colorado 80513 is open Monday-Thursday 3-9, Friday-Saturday 12-10, and Sunday 12-9. The new brewing space is located at 1480 Cascade Ave. Loveland, Colorado 80538 and that facility is open Monday-Thursday 2-9, Friday-Saturday 11-10, and Sunday 11-9. Recently, the West Loveland location on Highway 34 has merged with Peel Handcrafted Pizza of Frederick to provide new options for those coming in for a brew. And right around the corner is Berthoud Dental, for all your dental needs.
Berthoud Brewing Company can be followed on Facebook where new releases are constantly being shared. You can also stay up to date on what is brewing by checking out their Instagram page @berthoudbrewing. These pages also let customers know when Berthoud plans to attend the local farmers market, providing an option for shoppers to sip on a cold one while supporting their local businesses.
Speaking of local, not only does Berthoud support, local musicians, promote local businesses, and buy local ingredients, but it also upcycles its spent grain! Its Facebook page boasts the picture of a happy pig, freshly back from a trough of spent materials. The homey attitude of the business is also reflected in its modest but character-filled layout, complete with rustic wooden accents, hip artwork, and spaces for playing cards, board games, and other fun activities while visiting.
What sounds better than supporting craft breweries in Colorado, especially on a food truck Friday with a game of Cards Against Humanity?
Most locals and regulars report being impressed by the quickly rotating selection of delicious brews and recommend joining as a Club Member for its perks. Even if you are only visiting from out of town, however, you should not pass this place up. The locations may be small, but they’re packed with a good atmosphere and friendly people. In fact, you might encounter the owners while dropping by – a phenomenon that guests report as being a quite pleasant addition to their visits! With some spectacular reviews on Untapped, you’ve got to taste it yourself! After relaxing with a couple of beers, head over to the Brookside Spa and Salon for a relaxing evening.
